About Operation Nourish
- In 2009 my family made and delivered Christmas Eve dinner for the families of children receiving bone marrow transplants
at Boston Children’s Hospital. These families, from the world over, are confined to the hospital for a period of six weeks
as their children undergo risky, frightening, and life-saving treatment for diseases such as leukemia and sickle cell anemia.
Recognizing the agonizing journey these parents are on, I founded Operation Nourish in 2010 to deliver weekly nourishing
snacks for them. Experimenting with recipes for tasty but nutritionally-dense snacks, I created a variety of energy bars
and cookies laden with fruit and nuts, delivered along with small packs of trail mix and fresh fruit. Purchasing ingredients
with my allowance and some donations, I have engaged a small group of volunteers with baking and packaging of the snacks.
There is so little that can be done for the parents of these very sick children so far away from home; it is a small source
of comfort for them to have a healthy homemade snack a few times a week.
